Swiss asset manager Pictet has opened a new facility designed to strengthen its investment research capabilities.
The Pictet Research Institute will be based in Geneva and will focus on topics with “long term implications for the investment industry”.
Such topics include macro and geopolitics as well portfolio specific issues.

The business will be led by Maria Vassalou who joins from Goldman Sachs Asset Management where she was most recently co-chief investment officer of multi-asset solutions.
She will report to Sebastien Eisinger, managing partner at Pictet.
In addition to having its own team of researchers, the institute will also look to collaborate with academics, think tanks and internal teams at Pictet.
“The rapidly changing economic and market environment requires us to further strengthen our capabilities in analysing existing and developing global themes and trends,” said Eisinger.
“The launch of the [institute] and it’s fundamental research will help us to better understand and adapt to the long-term implications of these developments.”
