Aviva upgrades ESG profiling tool

Aviva has made changes to its ESG Profiler tool on its Aviva Advised platform to support investor decision-making in sustainability.

The ESG Profiler now offers a downloadable customer report, which supports advisors seeking to include ESG factors in client conversations.

Aviva is also offering an additional preference category to the platform – air pollution. This takes the overall number of ESG preferences available to nine, consisting of climate change, women in leadership, water security, waste, deforestation, human rights, recycling, corporate governance, and now air pollution.

Aviva made the changes to the tool after receiving user feedback suggesting it would benefit from being able to generate a client report, for advisers to share with their clients.

Al Ward, head of platform at Aviva, said: “Our recent research with The Lang Cat showed that, although over a third of advisers say that adding value to their relationships with their clients is the biggest motivating factor in having ESG discussions, 48% of advisers do not conduct these retrospective reviews.

“Using the ESG Profiler tool with this output is a good way to enable those conversations, and add value to existing, as well as new, relationships.”

Released in October 2021, the tool profiles client investments against independent ESG metrics and provides advisors with the ability to offer alternatives.

The preferences functionality enables advisors to produce a report that focuses on the client’s ESG preferences as well as observe the total carbon footprint of their products.

Aviva’s sustainability strategy also led to the firm adding Sam Tripuraneni as head of sustainable outcomes in May 2022.

In the role, Tripuraneni oversees the firm’s stewardship and sustainable outcomes franchises, encompassing the climate transition, social transition and natural capital transition suite of products.
