Janus Henderson appoints European equities analysts

Janus Henderson Investors has appointed two investment analysts, Tom O’Hara and Tom Lemaigre, to its European equities team.

O’Hara joins from Exane BNP Paribas where he was vice-president responsible for analysing the metals, mining and steel sectors.

Lemaigre joins from RWC Partners, where he was an investment analyst responsible for fundamental bottom-up research of pan-European equities.

The pair replace Bill Casey and Nick Kissak, who left Janus Henderson to join Schroders.

O’Hara and Lemaigre will both report to John Bennett, head of European equities.

Earlier in the week the Anglo-US investment house posted a dive in net income in the first quarter of the year.

First quarter 2018 net income was $165.2 million compared to $471.7 million in the fourth quarter 2017 and $42.6 million in the first quarter of 2017.

But Janus Henderson also managed to reduce outflows to $2.7 billion from $2.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2017.

The firm, newly formed from a merger between Henderson Investors and Janus Capital last year, said it was “pleased with the pace of integration” and that it had exceeded its year one target of $90 million in net cost synergies.

The firm’s assets under management (AuM) increased to $371.9 billion, compared to $330.8 billion at the end of the first quarter 2017, supported by positive market performance and favourable foreign exchange, the firm said.

Andrew Formica and Dick Weil, co-chief executive officers of Janus Henderson Group, said: “Against the backdrop of elevated market volatility, we are pleased to have maintained robust investment performance through the quarter.”
