ESAs consult on standards for European financial access point

The European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, EIOPA and ESMA – the ESAs) have opened a consultation on the draft implementing technical standards (ITSs) regarding the tasks of collection bodies and functionalities of the european single access point (ESAP).

Launched on January 8, 2024, the initiative aims to streamline financial and sustainability information for future users of the ESAP. Stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback by March 8, 2024.

The consultation seeks input on various aspects, including the automated validations for submitted information, characteristics of the Qualified Electronic Seal, open standard licenses, data collection application programming interfaces (APIs), metadata characteristics, time limits for information provision to ESAP and acceptable data formats.

Additionally, it covers functionalities of the ESAP, like data publication APIs, legal entity identifiers, classification of information types, entity size categories and industry sector characterisations for easy search and access in the ESAP.

The ESAP, a key component of the Capital Markets Union Action Plan, aims to enhance access to vital public information relevant to financial services, capital markets, and sustainability. It is expected to become operational in July 2026, with information publishing to commence by July 2027.

Feedback on this consultation can be sent via the ESMA’s consultation page until the March deadline. Post-consultation, all contributions will be publicly released unless otherwise requested. The ESAs also plan to organise a public hearing through a webinar, with details to be announced on their websites.

Following the consultation, the ESAs will review the feedback and submit the draft ITSs to the European Commission by September 10, 2024
