Esma calls for evidence on shortening settlement cycle

The European Securities and Markets Authority (Esma) has initiated a call for evidence (CfE) on the topic of potentially shortening the settlement cycle. Stakeholders have until 15 December 2023 to submit their feedback.

This CfE aims to help Esma evaluate the implications of reducing the settlement cycle within the EU, especially considering changes like the T+1 settlement cycle being planned in jurisdictions like the US.

ESMA is keen on understanding any necessary regulatory actions to aid EU market participants in adjusting to such changes.

Esma is welcoming input from various stakeholders in the financial markets, including market infrastructures like central securities depositories (CSDs), central counterparties (CCPs), trading venues, investment firms, issuers, fund managers and both retail and wholesale investors. They are encouraged to provide detailed feedback on Esma’s questions.
