Poland welcomes first ETF launch

The Warsaw Stock Exchange has welcomed its first fully Polish exchange-traded fund (ETF), known as the BETA ETF WIG20TR.

The issuer of the product is AgioFunds TFI, a licensed investment fund company. ETFs are regulated by both European Union and domestic law.

Europe is witnessing continued growth in the ETF market, with total assets in ETFs and ETPs listed in Europe coming to $783 billion (€688 billion) in October 2018 compared with $3.05 trillion listed in the US.

Marek Dietl, president of the Warsaw Stock Exchange (known by its Polish acronym, GPW), said: “ETFs are very popular on the global financial markets and are bound to enjoy popularity in Poland.

“I believe that the listing of this new ETF will offer tangible benefits, sparking more interest in GPW’s products and attracting new domestic and international investors to the local capital market.”
