AXA Investment Managers has appointed Pierre-Emmanuel Juillard to managing director of a new investment team, focused on liquid absolute return strategies.
Juillard will report to Andrea Rossi and lead a team of 10 professionals at a new AXA IM branch in Hong Kong. His appointment is effective immediately, although the new strategy’s launch remains subject to regulatory approval. The firm hopes the new strategy will be open for business by the second half of 2016.
Liquid absolute return strategies are defined as funds pursuing absolute, positive returns in all market conditions. They are designed to offer optimal liquidity for investors, and can be bought and sold at their net asset value weekly. However, this liquidity often comes at a premium, as fees are typically higher than traditional investment funds (such as bonds and equities).
Juillard originally joined AXA IM in 1999, as head of financial engineering and asset and liability management studies. In 2010, he resigned his position as head of structured finance to join Goldman Sachs’ Hong Kong office, where he was a partner and head of structuring for the firm’s Asia Pacific securities division.
AXA IM manages assets of around €669 billion in as of December 31 2015.
