Legal & General, the London-based financial services giant, has appointed Daniel Godfrey to its independent governance committee.
A co-founder of The People’s Trust, an independent investment trust, Godfrey was the often controversial chief executive of the Investment Association between 2012 and 2015.
Legal & General’s governance committee oversees the workplace and the firm’s mature savings pension schemes, which have some £18.8 billion (€21.3 billion) of assets under management.
Committee chairman Dermot Courtier said that Godfrey’s experience would help the committee’s increased focus on governance issues and value for members.
Godfrey replaces Tony Filbin, who last month stepped down from the committee as well as from Legal & General’s mastertrust board of trustees.
Filbin’s position on the mastertrust will be filled Moira Beckwith who joins the firm from GlaxoSmithKline, where she was responsible for UK benefit and pension plans.
