Former Aberdeen MiFID II expert joins WisdomTree

Exchange-traded fund provider WisdomTree has appointed Altaf Cassam to the newly created role of head of compliance for the firm’s European activities.

Cassam joins WisdomTree from Aberdeen Asset Management where he was a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II consultant.

Cassam has almost 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry, with ten years’ experience specifically in regulation and compliance. Cassam has held senior positions at Ernst & Young, Pioneer, Threadneedle and Natixis.

Cassam will be based in London and have responsibility for all European compliance operations. He will report to Bryan Governey, WisdomTree’s general counsel in Europe.

Dave Abner, head of WisdomTree in Europe, said: “Regulation and compliance are core to how we do business, and – as we continue our expansion across Europe – is increasingly important in ensuring we meet our investors’ needs.”

WisdomTree Europe amassed over $1 billion (€949 million) in assets under management last June, with the firm only launching its first European product in October 2014.
