Aviva Investors has appointed Bryony Deuchars as a fund manager in its emerging market equities team.
Deuchars will be posted in the firm’s London office, and report to Will Ballard, head of emerging market and Asia Pacific equities. She will manage portfolios and identify opportunities for the firm’s Emerging Markets Equity Income and Emerging Markets Equity Small Cap funds, both managed by Will Ballard.
She joins from Schroders, where she was a senior equity analyst in the firm’s emerging markets team. Prior to that role, she was an equity analyst with German institutional fund provider WestAM.
In a statement, Ballard said the increased political uncertainty in Europe resulting from Brexit has helped to aid a recovery in emerging markets in the short-term, as central banks in developed markets will ensure monetary policy remains accommodative for as long as possible.
“This provides many emerging countries with the opportunity to lower domestic interest rates and stimulate growth without having to worry over currency weakness or capital flight,” he said.
Ballard’s funds have increased exposure to Indonesia in recent weeks, while Chinese holdings have been further reduced due to “long-term structural concerns”.
Aviva Investors manages assets of £267 billion (€320 billion) as of December 31 2015.
