Newton Investment Management has hired a former BlackRock multi-asset fund manager to co-lead its real return team.
Andrew Warwick was co-manager of the BlackRock Dynamic Diversified Growth Fund and also managed the BGF Flexible Multi-Asset Fund, BlackRock Balanced Growth Fund and BlackRock Balanced Managed Fund.
In the newly-created position, Warwick will report to Suzanne Hutchins when he joins the firm on July 30 as co-lead portfolio manager for Newton and its owner BNY Mellon’s real return strategies.
The other co-leads are Hutchins and Aron Pataki.
Newton says Warwick’s experience of running multi-asset funds will be a “highly complementary” skill set to the real return team, mainly in cross-asset-class research, macro input and portfolio construction.
Fergus McCarthy, head of UK and Ireland intermediary distribution at BNY Mellon Investment Management, said the expansion of the real return team was a “strong recognition” of the importance of the strategy to its business and the growth expected from it in the UK, Irish and other markets around the world.
He added: “The strategy will continue to be based on its fundamental principles, but its approach will continue to evolve as the strategy seeks to navigate an evolving financial landscape.”
