Theam, BNP Paribas Investment Partners’ index-based investment arm, has received regulatory approval to distribute its Low Carbon 100 Theam Easy Ucits ETF in the UK.
Theam launched the exchange-traded fund (ETF) in 2008 and it is already available in France and the Netherlands.
The ETF tracks the performance of the Low Carbon 100 Europe Index published by Euronext, which is designed to measure the performance of 100 major European companies with the lowest carbon intensity within their sectors.
This product is designed for investors concerned with environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues as it gives access to companies leading their sectors in terms of reducing carbon emissions and combatting climate change.
Theam is making the product available in the UK in the run up to the 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference due to take place at the end of the year.
Marie Sophie Pastant, deputy head of the index management team at Theam, says: “The Low Carbon 100 Europe Index has outperformed the Stoxx Europe 600 Index by 12.7% net of fees over the past five years. This clearly demonstrates that it is possible to combine financial performance and responsible investing.”
