Robeco appoints global thematics head

Robeco has appointed Ralf Oberbannscheidt as global head of thematic investing.

Joining in May, Oberbannscheidt will be based in Zurich and report to fundamental and quant equities CIO Mark van der Kroft.

Currently, Robeco’s active thematic investment teams – which Oberbannscheidt will oversee – manage €18.7 billion in assets and are based out of Rotterdam and Zurich.

Oberbannscheidt joins from New York-based Global Thematic Partners, where he was founding partner and portfolio manager. Prior to that, from 1999 to 2010, he was a senior portfolio manager at Deutsch Asset Management, based in Frankfurt.

In recent months, Robecp, which has retained its spot as one of the top 10 responsible investment brands, has been actively adding to its product range.

In March, the Dutch asset manager launched its second closed-ended private debt fund targeting sustainable businesses in core European markets.

And late last year, the firm unveiled a biodiversity equities strategy, classified as Article 9 under SFDR.
