Octopus Energy invests £200m in Deep Green’s sustainable tech

Octopus Energy Generation has invested £200 million in Deep Green, a London-based tech company, to expand their innovative data centre heat reuse technology in the UK.

This technology converts excess heat from data processing into free heating for energy-intensive facilities like leisure centres, significantly reducing heating costs.

An example includes a Devon swimming pool where heating expenses were cut by over 60%.

Deep Green’s installations, such as in swimming pools, require no additional grid upgrades or planning permission, facilitating rapid deployment.

This investment from Octopus Energy’s Transition Fund and the Sky (ORI SCSp) fund highlights a strategic move towards sustainable energy solutions.

Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Octopus Energy Generation, said: “To tackle the energy crisis head-on, we need innovative solutions to unusual problems. By using excess heat from data centres to slash energy bills for communities across the UK, Deep Green solves two problems with one solution.

“We’re looking forward to them rapidly rolling this out and positively impacting even more people as we drive towards a cleaner, cheaper energy future.”
