Schroders has appointed Sophie van Oosterom as global head of real estate, taking over from Duncan Owen who is to step down and become special adviser.

In her new role, van Oosterom will oversee direct and indirect real estate portfolios with a view to expanding the business.

Prior to joining Schroders, van Oosterom was most recently regional chief executive and chief operating officer at California-headquartered CBRE Global Investors. She has around 25 years’ industry experience.

Her predecessor Owen has led Schroders’ €19.2 billion real estate business for nearly nine years and leaves the role at the end of December.
