Ostrum hires former French regulator

Paris-based Ostrum Asset Management has hired Vanessa Casano as secretary general in charge of finance, risk and permanent control.

Casano joins from French regulator Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), where she was previously head of its asset management policy division within its international affairs department.

In her new role, Casano will sit as a member of Natixis Investment Management affiliate’s executive committee, reporting directly to chief executive Philippe Setbon.

As a member of the committee, Casano will contribute to Ostrum’s international development.

Ostrum’s Philippe Setbon said: “Her international experience, as well as her expertise both in the asset management and the regulatory environment, are major assets to meet our clients’ requirements.

“Her appointment also supports Ostrum Asset Management’s development ambitions to become one of the top three European insurance managers.”

Casano joined the AMF in 2015 having previously worked at Lyxor Asset Management, Calyon Group and BNP Paribas.

At the French regulator, she represented the AMF at the European Securities and Markets Authority’s investment management standing committee and at the International Organization of Securities Commissions.

It is the latest in a series of senior appointments for Ostrum over the past year. In May 2022, the firm appointed Christoph Thywissen as chief transformation officer with responsibility for the development of new digital services, optimisation of data governance, and the deployment of its ESG Ostrum New Ecosystem programme.

The firm also named Frédéric Leguay as head of equities with responsibility for the equity team within the insurance and asset-liability management (ALM) solutions department, and earlier this month Ostrum also appointed three portfolio managers – Sonia Berrejeb, Damien Clouzeau and Karim Khemache – to the insurance and ALM solutions team.

Ostrum has €393.1 billion in assets under management, including €284 billion in insurance-related assets under management.
