Asset manager Nomura has appointed Tom Scholar as non-executive chair of Nomura Europe Holdings (NEHS), Nomura International (NIP) and Nomura Bank International (NBI).
Scholar will be a non-executive director of the firm from January 1, 2024, replacing David Godfrey on April 10, 2024.
In the role, Scholar will provide strategic guidance, oversight and challenge to the NEHS board and management.
Scholar has spent over three decades in the UK civil service, most recently as permanent secretary and head of HM Treasury. He has held several roles in the service, including senior advisor and sherpa to David Cameron and principal private secretary and chief of staff for Gordon Brown.
Earlier in his career, Scholar served as British representative and executive director of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington.
Scholar commented that his appointment came at a “pivotal moment for the Japanese economy”, bringing significant growth opportunities for Nomura globally and in the UK.
