Newton, part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, has hired fund manager Alex Khosla as it grows the team that runs its £1.8 billion suite of emerging market and Asian equity strategies.
The move will see Khosla reunited with his former colleagues Paul Birchenough and Ian Smith, lead portfolio managers on the firm’s Global Emerging Markets, Sustainable Global Emerging Markets and Asian Equity strategies.
The trio previously worked on similar funds at Axa Framlington together.
Khosla joins from Aikya Investment Management, where he was an investment analyst covering global emerging markets. Prior to that, he held an investment analyst role at Stewart Investors after his stint at Axa Framlington, having started his career at UBS Investment Bank.
Birchenough said Khosla would make an “invaluable contribution to the strategies” given his emerging market equities experience.
“We have continued to see strong demand for our Global Emerging Markets and Asian equities franchise,” he said.
“These regions provide a particularly attractive opportunity for long-term, active investors like us, and we continue to grow our product offering in the asset class.
“Alex shares our belief in long-term investing with a clearly defined philosophy and an established, disciplined process for idea generation and portfolio management.”
Khosla started in his newly-created role on 1 April.
