Specialist investment manager Polar Capital has hired Georgina Hamilton to head up its newly created UK value team.
The firm expects to launch its first product with Hamilton, the UK Value Opportunities Fund, by the end of the year.
Hamilton joins Polar Capital from Miton Group where she managed the £869 million (€896 million) Miton UK Value Opportunities Fund alongside George Godber. Godber will be joining Hamilton at Polar soon according to the firm.
Prior to Miton, she was a lead analyst at Matterley, a fund management subsidiary of Charles Stanley.
Tim Woolley, chief executive officer of Polar Capital, said: “Georgina joins us to launch and build a UK value franchise. Her appointment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to attract outstanding active management talent and further expand the range of products we offer to clients.”
Polar Capital manages assets of $9.6 billion (€8.9 billion) as of December 31 2015, a 12% year-on-year decline. The fall was largely driven by outflows from the firm’s Japanese funds, which the firm claims have underperformed due to Abenomics.
