Liontrust AuMA up 8.5% despite outflows in Q1 2022

Liontrust Asset Management has reported an increase of 8.5% in its assets under management and advice (AuMA) over the year, to £33.5 billion as of 31 March 2022.

This was despite net outflows of £400 million in the first quarter of 2022, as a result of the loss of an investment management mandate, worth £329 million, for Verbatim Funds, explained Liontrust’s chief executive John Ions.

However, for the full year ending 31 March 2022, Liontrust reported net inflows of £2.5 billion.

Ions added: “The net outflows of the past quarter do not alter our belief in and focus on the long-term strategy of the business.

“Liontrust has continued to diversify and expand our investment capability and the business, and ensured we deliver for and engage with our investors.”

As of 7 April 2022, Liontrust’s total AuMA was £38.5 billion, due to the completion of its acquisition of Majedie Asset Management, which added £5.2 billion to Liontrust’s AuMA.

The Majedie investment team has been renamed the Liontrust Global Fundamental team following the acquisition.

Ions said: “The acquisition of Majedie Asset Management, which completed on 1 April 2022, has continued our diversification and expansion, both through distribution to institutional investors and investment capability, as well as adding £5.2 billion to our AuMA.

“Majedie also brings excellent client service, which is reflected in the strength of their relationships.”

According to the recently published Pridham Report, Liontrust had the second highest net retail sales and fifth highest gross retail sales in the UK in 2021 in the asset management industry.
