JP Morgan AM’s latest hires swell European ETF team

JP Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) has hired six people across Europe to the exchange-traded funds (ETF) business that the firm has been building since hiring Bryon Lake from Invesco Powershares to head it in early 2017.

Lake said the appointments – which span the Nordics, Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK – were part of plan to have local distribution capacity for JPMAM’s ETFs.

The six people include Philip Annecke who works in London as head of ETF distribution for Germany and Austria with a primary focus on institutional clients.

Annecke is also from Invesco Powershares but was one of the earliest employees of Source, which Invesco Powershares bought last year. At Source, Annecke was an executive director of German sales.

Roberta Gastaldello has been appointed head of ETF distribution for Italy and will be based in Milan. She joins from Amundi Asset Management where she specialised in ETF sales across wholesale and insurance clients.

Tobias Nilsson has been appointed as an ETF specialist in Stockholm with a focus on Nordic clients. He joins from Wisdom Tree where he led business development in Nordic countries.

JPMAM has also expanded the role of Lorena Martinez-Olivares, a sales executive of the asset manager based in Madrid. She will support JPMAM’s ETF distribution effort in Spain.

In October last year JPMAM launched its first European ETFs, including a long/short product.

The latest six appointments also include Antonia Millard as a sales executive in London, who joins from JP Morgan’s corporate and investment bank where she worked in industrials specialist sales, and Andrew Moore, who becomes ETF capital markets specialist in London and joins from Vanguard Asset Management where he worked variously as a fund accountant, operations specialist and ETF capital markets analyst.

Lake, who is head of international ETFs at JPMAM, said: “As we rapidly expand our ETF product offerings across Europe, having local ETF distribution expertise is a key part of our strategy.”

In January JPMAM’s ETF business announced three hires including a distribution head for Continental Europe.
