Janus Henderson Group has announced that James de Sausmarez, director and head of investment trusts, will retire later this year.
De Sausmarez’s retirement will take effect from 30 June 2022, upon which he will be succeeded by Dan Howe, deputy head of investment trusts. Until then, de Sausmarez and Howe will work together towards a “smooth transition”, the group said.
De Sausmarez first joined Touche Remnant, a Henderson legacy firm, in 1986, and eventually joined the investment trust business in 2005.
He plans to concentrate on his “civic and voluntary interests”, while seeking non-executive opportunities when he retires.
De Sausmarez’s successor, Howe, joined Janus Henderson Investors in late 2021, from JP Morgan Asset Management where he held the position of executive director for global strategic relationships from 2018 to 2021. Prior to this, he had been part of its investment trust business for five years, latterly as head of sales.
Dick Weil, CEO of Janus Henderson Investors, said: “The investment trust business is Janus Henderson’s oldest and remains a core business for us, where our client investment trusts continue to lead the market.
“I want to thank James for his exceptional service to our company and I wish him well in his retirement; I know that with Dan, James is leaving the business in excellent hands.”
The investment trust business is Janus Henderson’s oldest and includes The Bankers Investment Trust, Henderson Far East Income Trust and The City of London Investment Trust.
