Funds industry footballers raise money for autism charity

Calastone, a cross-border messaging network for mutual funds, is sponsoring the second Charity Shield five-a-side football tournament.

Participating teams are mostly made up of well-known fund management firms and intermediaries. This year players are supporting ‘Research Autism’ – a charity that aims to help improve the quality of life and outlook for people affected by autism.  Last year’s event, in aid of ‘Help for Heroes’, raised £10,000.

Ian Taylor, CEO of Calastone, said: “We are delighted to be holding the second Funds Industry Charity Shield tournament, for the benefit this year of Research Autism, after the huge success of last year.

“At a time when the funds industry is facing a lot of scrutiny over charging and transparency, it’s great to see the major players in the industry getting together to raise money for an important charity.”

The tournament takes place today at London Soccer Dome. “I just hope the standard of football can match the quality of the funds industry brands that are taking part!” said Taylor.
