Funds Europe journalist wins CFA award

Funds Europe’s associate editor Mark Latham has won the CFA Society UK’s prestigious journalism award for the best newcomer to financial journalism.

The New Journalist of the Year Award, presented by the association of finance industry professionals, celebrates up-and-coming talent in financial journalism.

The CFA said that Latham’s article “Killing the goose that laid the golden egg” about the potential impact of Brexit on the UK’s £7 trillion (€8 trillion) asset management industry was judged to be “the most engaging and informative submission in this category”.

Latham (pictured left) joined Funds Europe last year from the Sunday Herald, where he worked as deputy business editor. He has also worked as a business journalist for The Sunday Times and Handelsblatt Global Edition.

The annual awards are determined by reviews of multiple, anonymised submissions from leading national and investment publications.

The winners were selected by CFA UK’s marketing and communications and ethics committees.

Will Goodhart, chief executive of CFA UK, said: “The journalists that cover our sector perform an invaluable function in holding us to account and challenging us.

“The award winners have demonstrated a high standard of excellence. We’re grateful for the work that they do and pleased to have an opportunity to recognize their achievements.”

Other winners of this year’s awards were Madison Marriage, of the Financial Times, and Chris Newlands, editor of the Financial News.

The prizes were presented yesterday at the CFA UK’s annual summer reception in the City of London.
