Fidelity International to shut Kent office

Global investment firm Fidelity International is to close its Tonbridge office in south-east England in 2020.

It plans to relocate “the majority” of 650 employees who work at the site to another office at Kingswood in Surrey. A consultation period will start in January 2018.

The firm currently has three main office locations in the UK: Tonbridge, Kingswood and in the City of London. It also has a retirement service on the Isle of Wight.

Peter Horrell, UK managing director of Fidelity International, said the firm had to work in different ways to deliver for its clients and that included being more efficient, collaborative and flexible.

That will more easily be achieved with one suburban site rather than two, he said.

“Closing an office is never an easy decision to make but it is our clear intention and also our strong desire that the majority of people who work in our Kent office will come with us to Kingswood in Surrey and continue with their roles in a different location,” he said.
