Euroclear appoints chief executive for Polish office

Securities settlement firm Euroclear has appointed Stéphane Bernard as chief executive of the firm’s Polish branch in Krakow.

Bernard will replace Geert Desmedt, who has worked in Krakow since the opening of Euroclear’s Polish office five years ago and who will be taking up new responsibilities in Euroclear’s risk management division at its headquarters in Brussels.

Bernard will be moving to Krakow from Brussels. He is a member of Euroclear’s audit committee and also a member of the board of directors of the central securities depositories Euroclear Belgium, Euroclear France and Euroclear Netherlands.

Euroclear’s office in Krakow was established in January 2013 to serve as a dual office for Euroclear’s operational business in Brussels and Hong Kong.

By the end of 2016, the office had grown to over 500 employees in operational and client-facing roles.
