Trading becoming “more difficult”

Colin Purdie, CIO of liquid markets at Aviva Investors, tells Funds Europe he analyses trading costs at the firm each month and recognises that “trading is getting more difficult”.Purdie spoke with Funds Europe recently about interest-rate expectations and how he expects fixed income markets to reward bond investors.

He said that the lower level of liquidity since the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) has increased the focus on trading.

“Trading is getting more difficult. Liquidity has materially declined since the GFC, yet more and more capital is being put into the system,” said Purdie, who won Funds Europe’s CIO of the Year award in 2022.
