Baring Asset Management has made two senior appointments to its global multi-asset team, with the hires of James Ind and Merrick Styles.
Based in London, Ind and Styles will report to Marino Valensise, head of multi asset at Barings, and will bring the team to a total of 12 individuals.
Ind will join Barings in early September as a member of the strategic policy group and the equity research sub-group. In this newly created role he will be responsible for leading the development of a long short strategy.
Ind’s prior experience includes managing long-short multi-asset funds as well as equities at firms such as GLG Partners, Russell Investments and Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.
Styles will join the team in mid-October, also becoming a member of the strategic policy group and joining the economic research sub-group. He will assume the chairmanship of the asset class research sub-group and become the lead manager of the Baring Euro Dynamic Asset Allocation Fund. Styles takes over this role from Hartwig Kos who is leaving the firm.
Most recently co-head of investments for Amundi’s UK business, Styles began his career with the firm in 2005 and was a part of the team which managed the multi-asset value-at-risk (VaR) funds at Credit Agricole.
Commenting on the appointments, Marino Valensise says: “I am pleased to welcome James and Merrick to the firm as we continue to invest in building our multi-asset franchise.”
