Asset managers looking to make or offer investments that are ESG friendly often identify data transparency and availability as a significant challenge. What can be done to overcome this?
“Since SFDR came into force in March 2021, Asset Managers have needed to navigate the challenges of setting up and implementing their ESG investment strategies. In particular, issues related to ESG data availability, quality and consistency present the biggest hurdle.
“When it comes to transparency, investors lack tools to systematically and efficiently reveal the breakdown of their portfolios. Today, secure cloud technologies offer the ability to collect all of your asset managers’ fund inventories and enable portfolio look-through in minutes.
“As for availability, and considering the vast amount of sustainability data points collected throughout the entire ecosystem of corporates, rating agencies, and AI companies, the better question to address is connectivity.
“Again, collaborative cloud-based technology is the answer here. The most effective is an open-architecture marketplace featuring top-tier and niche sustainability providers offering complementary methodologies, use cases, asset class coverages and ESG-related services”.
