Funds Europe roundtable discusses ESG in the US

ESG investing in the US is still impeded by the notion that investors would have to sacrifice returns, according to Lisa Jones, head of the Americas and US chief executive of Amundi Pioneer.

Jones was speaking on Funds Europe’s New York roundtable and said ESG had to be de-mystified in America, partly because ESG’s earlier form, known as socially responsible investment, had “triggered poor experiences”.

However, Matt Coldren of Natixis Investment Managers, says he expects the Joe Biden administration to be receptive to having ESG products in retirement plans.

The ESG question formed part of a wider discussion about asset management in the US and was published in our recent Global Industry report, which also features roundtable panels in London and Hong Kong.
