Veteran emerging markets investor Mark Mobius has launched a London-based asset management firm.
Together with co-founders Grzegorz Konieczny and Carlos von Hardenberg he aims to raise $1 billion (€0.83 billion) for the company.
Mobius Capital Partners will invest in Latin America, India and China. It will offer an active investment approach focusing on improving governance in emerging and frontier market corporations.
The firm will incorporate MSCI environmental, social and governance (ESG) research into its assessment of companies in emerging and frontier markets. It does not intend to invest in companies which already have robust ESG policies but in those it believes have the potential for improvement.
The firm has been authorised by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority and will launch a Luxembourg-based Sicav open-ended fund. The launch is planned for summer 2018.
Mobius Capital Partners has selected UBS as its fund administrator, partnering with UBS Fund Management.
Eighty-one year old Mobius was quoted in the “The Times” as saying that he had decided to press ahead with basing the new firm in London despite Brexit after concluding that Brexit “is not going to happen, so we’re not too worried about it”.
