Law firm sees “acute” need for more funds partners

Law firm Reed Smith has appointed a partner from a rival firm and said it had a strong need for more seasoned finance partners as it vies to become the leading firm in European fund finance.

Bronwen Jones joins Reed Smith as a funds finance partner in the London firm’s financial industry group.

She was previously with Macfarlanes where she had also once been the firm’s head of finance.

Jones represents fund managers as well as banks and general partners on issues to do with capital calls, net asset values, asset-backed securities, and co-investments. Her work also includes acquisition finance and restructurings.

Reed Smith said the appointment came at a “key moment of growth” for its funds finance practice, with more products available and a higher demand by funds for debt finance. There were also a greater number of banks in the market, and some key US players operate across Europe, the firm said.

Edward Estrada, chair of Reed Smith’s financial industry group, said Jones had played a “pivotal role” in the development of the funds finance market in Europe, and added: “As we continue to expand, our need for additional seasoned partners has become acute.”
