Hamburg-based investment bank Berenberg has expanded its UK mid-cap research team with the addition of six new hires on the back of what it says is continued growth in UK equity capital markets activity and its UK corporate broking list.
The new hires include:
• Charles Weston, a healthcare specialist who has spent two years in industry and has 12 years on the sell-side, most recently at Numis.
• Ian Osburn, who has 10 years of experience and was most recently at Cantor Fitzgerald.
The team has also added Donald Tait from Panmure Gordon and Anthony Plom from Canaccord.
Berenberg’s UK mid-cap team was launched in 2013 and has grown its coverage to 150 UK stocks. With these hires, the bank plans to expand its coverage of UK equities by a further 50% to 300 by the year-end.
Berenberg’s head of European research Laura Janssens said: “We have one of the largest research teams in European equities with 100 analysts covering 700 stocks.
“Our UK mid-cap team is able to draw on the expertise of our sector analysts while looking for mispriced equity in under-researched parts of the market”.
Last month Germany’s oldest bank poached two senior investment professionals from Allianz Global Investors as the bank expands its asset and wealth management business.
