Rothschilds names responsible investments chief

Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management has named Jean-Philippe Desmartin head of responsible investment.

He will be posted to the firm’s Paris office and report to chief investment officer, Philippe Uzan.

Desmartin joins from Oddo Securities, where he was head of environment, social and governance (ESG) research for 11 years. During this time, he also founded an ESG consultancy, Desmartin Conseil.

Desmartin is also a member of working groups and international committees seeking to promote ESG issues and responsible investment practices, including the European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies and the International Corporate Governance Network. He has also written three books on responsible investment.

The appointment comes as the firm places greater emphasis on its asset management division, and pivots away from traditional services such as broking and merchant banking.

Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management manages assets of 116.8 billion Swiss francs (€107.1 billion), as of June 30, 2016.
