European ETF assets hit record high

Assets in European exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have hit another record high, standing at $539 billion (€484 billion).

Data from ETFGI July 31 also showed there were 2,200 European ETFs issued by 54 providers, listed on 25 exchanges in 21 countries.

Investment into global ETFs also reached a record high, with $2.4 trillion in the US, $191.8 billion in Japan and $81.19 billion in Canadia.

Fixed income ETFs were the most popular with investors in Europe, attracting the largest net inflows if $4.8 billion, followed by commodity ($2.59 billion), and equity ($2.2 billion) ETFs.

In provider terms, iShares reaped the largest net inflows in July, with $6.94 billion. SPDR ETFs was second, with $1.12 billion, and ETF Securities, with $1.08 billion.

The increase in July represented the 22nd consecutive month of inflows into ETFs, and is the highest on record so far this year.
