UBS Asset Management’s multi-strategy hedge fund platform called UBS O’Connor has hired seven portfolio managers including two from GLG Partners.
The appointments are in London, New York and Chicago and include Anthony Burton and Phil Pearson in London, who will co-run a technology, media and telecoms (TMT) equity strategy. Previously, both men were TMT equity portfolio managers and partners at GLG, which is part of the hedge fund business, Man Group.
A third appointment in London is Paul Findlay, who becomes a portfolio manager focusing on European long/short equities. Prior to this he was founder and chief executive of Bramshott Capital.
The seven hires are related to “pressure” within the hedge fund sector.
Dawn Fitzpatrick, group managing director and global head of equities, multi-asset, and O’Connor at UBS Asset Management, said: “With the hedge fund industry currently under pressure, O’Connor – with its differentiated risk management culture and multi-strategy approach – is strongly situated to capitalise on this to make strategic hires.
Erin Browne, Andrew Hamerling and James Moynihan join O’Connor as portfolio managers in New York. Ryan Stephens joins in Chicago.
UBS O’Connor had $5.6 billion (€4.9 billion) in assets under management, as of March 31, 2016.
