BNP Paribas launches alternatives business

BNP Paribas Investment Partners has created an alternatives business called BNP Paribas Capital Partners out of its old private equity unit.

Gilles Guérin will lead the business, which launches with €5 billion of assets under management, advisory or administration for institutional and private clients, and a 25-strong team.

BNP Paribas Investment Partners is one of the largest asset managers in Europe and operates a multi-boutique structure.

Jean-Marc Rivet Fusil will be responsible for the part of the business that manages private equity in a fund-of-funds format, and offers related advisory services.

Eric Debonnet will be responsible for the part of the business that offers fund manager selection. This area has a focus on managers with alternative and absolute return strategies.

Patrick Perez is chief operations officer and head of operational support for private equity funds.
