Neuberger Berman brings US long-short fund to Europe

Neuberger Berman has launched a US long-short equity fund as a sub-fund of its Ireland-domiciled Ucits fund umbrella.

The firm says the fund offers an accessible way for investors to gain hedge fund-like fund management without the constraints of performance fees and lock ups.

The US Long Short Equity Fund can invest in companies of all sizes and will take short positions to generate alpha returns or for “insurance”. The fund may also invest in bonds and equities outside of North America.

Charles Kantor, fund manager, says the timing of the launch is appropriate because “we anticipate increased equity volatility driven by the challenges of unwinding unprecedented Fed liquidity and a business cycle that is in the later stages”.

Kantor adds that he expects a “manufacturing renaissance” in the US to drive good investment returns, create jobs and improve consumer sentiment.

With the launch of the fund, Neuberger Berman’s Ucits platform consists of 20 funds with more than $18 billion (€13 billion) under management.
