Global institutional investors intend to make their first significant step into Africa over the next five years, raising their investments sharply from current low levels.
Invest AD, an Abu Dhabi-based fund manager, and the Economist Intelligence Unit found that 51% of 158 senior executives surveyed believe Africa will be the most attractive region for investment over the next decade and by 2016, all intend to have some investment in Africa, with a third expecting to allocate at least 5% of their total funds to the continent.
Currently, almost half of respondents say they have either no exposure, or less than a 1% allocation to Africa.
The findings are contained in a report called Into Africa: institutional investor intentions to 2016 published this week.
