Polar Capital appoints emerging markets team

As emerging markets remain on everyone’s radar, Polar Capital, a specialist investment manager has formed a global emerging markets team and plans to launch a long only global emerging markets growth fund in November this year.

The firm hired William Calvert, Ming Kemp and Neil Denman to create the new team. They will add to Polar Capital’s seven existing teams, which include the recent addition of the Financials sector team, following the acquisition of HIM Capital in September this year.

HIM was a specialist fund manager with an established track record of managing financial funds, which had approximately $230m (€168m) of assets under management.

Polar Capital anticipates that the new emerging markets team will launch a long only global emerging markets growth fund during November 2010 and further emerging markets funds are likely to follow in due course.

Commenting on the appointments, Tim Woolley, chief executive of Polar Capital said: “This is another exciting initiative for Polar Capital and is consistent with our aim to grow the business by attracting new investment talent as well as through the expansion of our existing strategies.”
