Columbia Threadneedle appoints ex-Standard Chartered COO

Kath Cates, former global chief operating officer for Standard Chartered Bank, has been appointed by Columbia Threadneedle Investments as a non-executive director.

She will remain a non-executive director at both wealth manager Brewin Dolphin and RSA Insurance Group.

Cates was global COO of Standard Chartered until 2013, where she led the company’s risk, IT, operations, legal and compliance, human resources, strategy, corporate affairs, brand, and marketing functions across 60 countries.

Prior, she spent over 20 years at UBS, most recently in the firm’s Zurich office as global head of compliance.

The appointment follows two high profile departures from Columbia Threadneedle in recent months. In April, Campbell Fleming, the regional chief executive for the firm, resigned and joined Aberdeen Asset Management. In May, Leigh Harrison, prominent UK equity manager and head of European equities at Columbia Threadneedle, announced his retirement from the industry.

Columbia Threadneedle manages assets of £323 billion (€420 billion).
