Schroders takes stake in property lending company

London-based investment house Schroders is expanding its footprint in property and alternative investments by taking a 20% stake in real estate lending firm A10 Capital for an undisclosed sum.

US-based A10 Capital specialises in mid-market commercial real estate loans, including bridge and permanent loans.

Earlier in the month Schroders acquired pan-European hotels investment and management business Algonquin.

The portfolio management process will be overseen by Schroders’ New York-based securitised credit team, led by head of securitised debt Michelle Russell-Dowe, with Jeff Williams, fixed income fund manager, as lead portfolio manager.

Karl Dasher, chief executive for North America and co-head of fixed income at Schroders, said A10’s sourcing and servicing capability would play an important role in Schroders’ effort to offer more private debt opportunities with “compelling” fixed income returns.
