Schroders Capital Real Estate hires head of UK asset management

Schroders Capital Real Estate has appointed Rebecca Gates to the newly-created role of head of UK asset management.

Gates will be responsible for overseeing asset management across all its direct UK portfolios.

She will focus on the asset management of funds, including the Schroders Capital UK Real Estate Fund and Schroders real estate investment trusts, and new client portfolios, including the Greater Manchester portfolio, worth £700 million, which the team recently onboarded.

Furthermore, in her new role, Gates will oversee the onboarding of the Scottish Widows direct real estate portfolios, totalling £3.5 billion.

The addition of the Scottish Widows portfolios will bring the UK team’s total directly managed assets to more than 300, excluding residential holdings, and over 2,000 tenants, valued at approximately $8 billion.

Gates will report to Nick Montgomery, head of UK investment at Schroders Capital Real Estate.

Prior to joining Schroders Capital, Gates worked for LaSalle Investment Management as head of UK asset management. She also served as a member of LaSalle’s UK investment committee and UK management board.

Montgomery said: “We are very pleased that Rebecca is joining our team. Rebecca’s key focus will be on maintaining long-term outperformance for our clients against the backdrop of a rapidly changing and more operationally focused real estate market.

“Rebecca’s experience will enable the team to continue to develop our hospitality-led approach to asset and property management, with every asset managed as a business in itself.”

He added: “Rebecca will also work closely with our specialist ESG colleagues to ensure that Schroders Capital delivers on its sustainable investment objectives, from both an environmental and social value perspective.”

Gates’ appointment follows several recent hires in London and at Schroders Capital’s new office in Manchester, with more appointments to follow, Schroders confirmed.
