Pimco poaches Man Group chief executive

Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Roman, current chief executive officer of hedge fund Man Group, is to join Pimco as chief executive in November this year.

Roman, CEO at Man Group since February 2013, will step down from the firm’s board on August 31 and join Pimco on November 1 at the firm’s Newport Beach, California, headquarters.

Roman has nearly three decades’ experience in the investment industry, including five years as co-CEO at GLG Partners from 2005, and chief operating officer of Man Group in 2010 after Man Group acquired GLG.

He previously was with Goldman Sachs for 18 years, including as co-head of worldwide global securities and co-head of the firm’s European services division.

Douglas Hodge, Pimco’s current CEO, will take up new responsibilities as managing director and senior adviser once Roman joins the firm.

Pimco has made other appointments recently, including Gene Frieda as global strategist for emerging markets, and Yacov Arnopolin as emerging market portfolio manager.

Pimco managed assets of $1.5 trillion (€1.36 trillion), as of December 31, 2015.
