Newton IM hires head of new £11bn equity opportunities division

Newton Investment Management (Newton IM) has recruited Ilga Haubelt to head its equity opportunities team in London, which invests £11.1 billion (€12.9 billion) in non-income equity assets.

Haubelt leaves her role as head of global equities at Deka Investment, where she oversaw a team of 23 people and assets of more than £12 billion.

It is a newly created role and Haubelt will manage a team of ten people and report to chief investment officer Curt Custard.

Her appointment follows the splitting of the UK fund house’s 16-strong active equity team into two hubs: equity income and equity opportunities.

Newton IM, a subsidiary of BNY Mellon, manages £23.5 billion of active equity mandates as of September 30, out of which £12.3 billion are income-based.
