M&G has moved to amplify its presence in the health investment space with the launch of a new strategy.
The firm said its M&G (Lux) Better Health Solutions fund, which is Article 9 compliant under the EU’s SFDR, would be managed by Jasveet Brar and John William Olsen.
The fund will target investments that align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for health and wellbeing, with a portfolio of between 30-40 stocks split between health and wellbeing.
This investment strategy mimics the new fund’s Oeic equivalent, M&G Better Health Solutions, which launched in June 2021.
The launch will not impact Olsen’s role on his other funds, which include managing the Global Sustain Paris Aligned and Pan European Sustain Paris Aligned strategies and the firm's Positive Impact strategies - both the M&G Climate Solutions fund and its Luxembourg-based equivalent. Olsen took on the latter two funds in October last year after former manager Randeep Somel decided to leave the asset management industry.
On the new fund, Brar said the Covid-19 pandemic had caused “devastating impacts on public health” and “disproportionately affected vulnerable communities around the world”. The necessity of robust healthcare systems and services has become "ever-more apparent", he added.
