MFS Investment Management hires former BlackRock bond manager

MFS Investment Management has appointed Owen Murfin as an institutional portfolio manager as the firm expands its fixed income team.

Murfin joins from BlackRock where he was a portfolio manager for 15 years and had joint responsibility for fundamental fixed income.

At MFS IM he will predominantly work on global credit and aggregate fixed income strategies, and he reports to Pilar Gomez-Bravo, director of fixed income, Europe.

Gomez-Bravo said MFS had been growing its fixed income business outside of the US for the “past number of years” and that Murfin’s role will be integral as the business advances across the region.

Murfin said that fixed income investors need “more support than ever before” in a world of low returns, increased regulation and growing market complexity.

MFS IM manages $510.6 billion (€413.2 billion) in assets globally.
