Mediolanum International Funds makes two fixed income hires

Dermott_AspellMediolanum International Funds (MIFL), the European asset management branch of Mediolanum Banking Group, has made two appointments to its fixed income team.

Dermott Aspell (pictured) is set to join the firm as senior fixed income portfolio manager, while Marco Meijer will join as a fixed income portfolio manager.

Aspell joins from Goodbody, a wealth manager based in Ireland, and has over 20 years of experience within the fixed income, absolute return and equity markets, having held roles at Pioneer Investments, HBV Credit Advisors, and the Bank of Ireland.

He is set to join the multi-manager portfolio management team at MIFL, with responsibility for the formation and maintenance of multi-manager fixed income portfolios, collaborating with the manager research team.

Aspell will be reporting to Bish Limbu, head of multi-management at MIFL.

Meijer joins with 25 years of experience within the fixed income and trading markets, with his most recent role at BNP Paribas, where he was a senior European interest rate strategist. Prior to this, he served as senior portfolio manager at Pioneer Investments.

He is joining the firm’s fixed income investment team, reporting directly to the head of fixed income, Charles Diebel.

In his new role, Meijer will manage the emerging market portfolios, with a focus on country-based analysis in relation to sovereign debt.

Chief investment officer at MIFL Christopher Jaubert said: “The appointments of Dermott and Marco brings nearly 50 years of valuable financial markets experience combined – both individuals have an impressive record within the fixed income space, and we’re delighted to have them on board.”
