Martin Currie appoints European distribution head

Edinburgh-based investment manager, Martin Currie, has appointed Barry MacLennan as the head of wholesale distribution in Europe.

The hire builds on the expansion of the distribution team following Julian Ide’s appointment as head of distribution in 2018. The firm is a Legg Mason affiliate and has €14 billion ($17 billion) in assets under management, it said in a statement.

MacLennan will lead the alignment of sales efforts between Martin Currie and Legg Mason in the UK and across Europe.

An 18-year veteran of Standard Life Investments, MacLennan spent most of his time in the wholesale management team, where he developed and led a team of investment specialists focusing on the firm’s relationship with distribution networks.

In addition to MacLennan, Mark Cho has also been appointed as head of intermediary distribution in the Americas and will be based in New York.
