Lombard team sees Covid-19 boost for fintech

Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM) has launched a thematic strategy focusing on fintech – a sector the firm says will be boosted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The investment team for the Global Fintech strategy is headed by Henk Grootveld, who joined LOIM from Dutch firm Robeco in January this year.

The strategy is managed by Jeroen van Oerle and Christian Vondenbusch, who both joined LOIM together with Grootveld.

Grootveld said: “For the last few years fintech has enjoyed a particularly strong rally as a result of the revolutionary role it has played in bringing traditionally physical finance activities – such as payments, transfers, security and financial management – online.”

According to Grootveld, the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the digitalisation of financial services.

“The combination of an increased penetration of e-commerce, countries wanting to reduce the black economy and the hygiene factor are now driving us towards a cashless society even faster than before,” he said.

Lombard Odier IM said the Global Fintech strategy will invest in firms across the fintech spectrum, from established companies with a global reputation, to future disruptors.
